Affiliate Disclosure

DataRoomPro participates in affiliate programs. When you click certain links on this site and sign up for a virtual data room, the operator of that program may pay DataRoomPro a commission. There is no additional cost to you, and these payments do not influence which providers I recommend or how I rank them.

This page exists to comply with the United States Federal Trade Commission's endorsement guidelines (16 CFR Part 255), the United Kingdom Advertising Standards Authority's CAP Code, and the European Union's consumer-protection rules on commercial communications. It also exists because, as a reader, I would want to know.

What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a tracked URL that tells the provider you arrived at their site from DataRoomPro. If you then sign up for a paid plan, the provider pays a commission to DataRoomPro under a pre-agreed schedule. The commission is paid by the provider out of their own marketing budget; nothing is added to your bill.

You can usually identify an affiliate link by hovering over it: the destination URL will include a tracking parameter (for example a "ref", "aff", "partner" or similarly named query string) or will route through a third-party affiliate network before redirecting to the provider's site.

Which programs DataRoomPro participates in

I am building this site openly. As of the date below, DataRoomPro is in the process of applying to the affiliate programs of the major virtual data room providers. The list of programs the site intends to participate in includes — but is not limited to — the following vendors:

• iDeals
• Datasite
• Intralinks
• Firmex
• Ansarada
• DealRoom
• Box

Not every program has been approved at the time of writing. Some links on the site may therefore currently be plain (non-affiliate) links to the provider's website, while others are tracked. Either way, the editorial treatment is identical: a link being commercial does not change the analysis around it.

This page will be updated as relationships are activated, paused or terminated. If you want to know whether a specific link on a specific page is an affiliate link, ask via the contact page and I'll tell you on the record.

How commissions are handled

The non-negotiable rules:

• No paid placements. Vendors cannot buy a position in a "best of" list, a higher rating, or a "featured" badge. The methodology behind every ranking is documented in the Editorial Policy.
• Commission rate does not affect ranking. If two providers are equally good and one pays double the commission, the ranking still reflects the editorial assessment, not the payout.
• Negative reviews stay negative. If I criticise a vendor on the site, that criticism is not removed because they pay a commission. If the criticism is wrong, I correct it on the merits — not because of a commercial relationship.
• No drafts to vendors. Affiliate partners do not see articles before publication and do not have approval rights over content.
• Conflicts disclosed in line. If a piece of content has a particular reason for a commercial relationship that goes beyond the standard affiliate setup — for example a vendor has provided extended trial access, on-the-record interviews, or paid travel for a hands-on test — that is disclosed at the top of the specific article.

Other revenue sources

Beyond affiliate commissions, DataRoomPro may display modest advertising on the educational sections of the site (the /learn/ M&A and due-diligence guides). Provider reviews, head-to-head comparisons and "best of" lists do not show ads, so the commercial pages remain free of third-party display creative.

Display ads are served programmatically through standard ad networks; the networks decide which creatives appear, not me. If you see an ad you find objectionable on the site, please flag it via contact and I will block the relevant advertiser.

No additional cost to you

Using an affiliate link from DataRoomPro never costs you more than going directly to the provider. In some cases, providers offer DataRoomPro readers a small additional benefit — an extended trial, a discount code, a setup credit. Where this happens it will be stated clearly on the page and applied to the link without extra steps from you.

How to skip affiliate links

If you would prefer not to sign up via an affiliate link, you don't have to. Every provider mentioned on this site can be reached by typing their name into a search engine or going directly to the URL on their company "About" page. Doing so doesn't disadvantage you in any way; it just means DataRoomPro is not credited with the referral.

Legal and jurisdiction

This site complies with — at minimum — the FTC's "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising" (16 CFR Part 255), the UK CAP Code on affiliate marketing, the EU's Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (2005/29/EC) and Spain's Ley 34/2002 de Servicios de la Sociedad de la Información y de Comercio Electrónico (LSSI-CE).
